When we prepare your accounts and tax returns, our accounting team will often ask for a "year-end bank statement." What does this mean?
A year-end bank statement is an official bank statement from your bank, which displays the balance in your business bank account on the last day of the financial year.
For example; if we're preparing your 2022 accounts and tax returns, your bank statement will need to display a line which shows what the closing bank balance was on 31 March 2022.
Most banks allow you to download copies of your bank statements, so log onto your internet banking and look for something similar to "Download or print statements" (Lloyds) "bank statements" (Monzo) or an option to "statements and documents" (Starling). Then make sure that the statement you're downloading covers the correct date (hint - check the year as well!) Check that the statement is for the correct bank account, so it should be for your business accounts, business loans and business credit cards.
We can only accept bank statements that are official documents, so these will usually be a document in a .pdf format, and will have a picture of the bank's logo on them. This means we can't accept other formats such as excel or csv bank files, because these are lists of transactions, not closing balances.
